 Via delle Terme is, from a historical point of view, one of the most interesting of Florence city centre, as archaeological diggings have revealed the existence of Roman thermae (thermal baths). These were destroyed during the barbaric invasions and later by some rich and noble families of the Middle Age and Renaissance: to show their economic and political power, those merchants and nobles built their own towers over the thermae, towers that were regularly destroyed with the change of every government. |
