Profile |
This bed and breakfast was opened in may 2007 after a through restauration that preserved the original frescoes and furniture but added modern comforts so as to please visitors from all over the world. It is a 3-storey house that was used as a guest house for Villa Granduchessa, a luxurius villa ownd by wealthy florentines families, including a brother of Napoleon Bonaparte and the Grand Duke of Tuscany Leopold II. |
Throughout the years, the villa was owned by a General and the grandfather of the family that lives in it today. Simona was the last owner before her two daughters and son turned the 500 square metre property into a lodging. The history of this villa is ever present, when you walk through these spacious rooms, some of which are still frescoed. The name "Ape Rosa" is due to some private jokes of the actual owners as children, when they so called one of the grotesque frescoed figures ("ape rosa" meaning "pink bee"). |
The jewel of Ape Rosa is its private garden, protected by the Ministry of Environment. Whereas on one side of the garden you can leave your car, the other side is an "à l'italiana" garden, with its gravel paths and the square lawns hedged by rose bushes and lemon trees, magnolias and iris hedges. |
