on the supplied laptop my advice is not to type any sensitive material ie login passwords cc nos etc

One thing that confused me (and apparently had confused others) was the street numbering on Via Nazionale. Interestingly, there are in fact two sets of numbers - one for residences/offices (I think) and one for shops. The hotel number is of the former type and as I recall these numbers are lower and increment more slowly.

The room I stayed in was pretty small, but it had a toilet/shower and was clean and modern. It was more or less what I expected; I would say pretty good value for money. And the staff were friendly and helpful.

After arriving at the train station in Florence, we had a little trouble finding the correct street because several come together at this point and were not clearly marked. We did finally find the street and didn't have any trouble finding the right address, but after entering the courtyard the entrance to the building was not clearly marked. It is the first one (out of 4) on the left when entering the courtyard.

The staff was very helpful and spoke excellent English. They even had a corkscrew for a bottle of wine that we wanted to enjoy on the rooftop garden. (With a little work this area could be amazing!) We were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful breakfast choices that were included in the room price.

We had an early train to catch and everything was ready for us to check out quickly. No problems here!

The only changes should be to the directions from the train station and on entering the building.

The Hotel Derby is one of the best European hotels that we visited during our recent travels to Italy and France. The staff is very helpful and the views of Florence from the rooftop garden can't be beat.

We had problems with the TV control, and air conditioner control. This problems was solucionet the day after.

We enjoyed our stay thoroughly due to the staff there, and the good breakfast included. A little disappointed in the cigarette smell constantly in room, state of bed, and the bathroom. Overall however, I would recommend it to others.

The hotel did not have a clear sign at the front entrance downstairs. It would be better if the hotel has ensuite safety box.... the hotel did not have proper safety box, you had to give it to receptionist and he/she had to keep it cashier drawer. But,hotel staff were nice and helpful.

About elevator....it can fit max. 2-3 people. If you have a big luggage, one only.

The photos of the rooms on the hotels website are not an accurate portrail of the 2 rooms that we used. They were not to the same standard.

The access from the ground floor is either via a lot of stairs or a very compact lift. The lift can only hold two people with no luggage or one person and one suitcase.

A very basic hotel, in a good location for seeing nearly all the city. It has great views over the city from the roof garden which you can have breakfast from, sun bathe on sun beds and take your own drinks up onto in the evening.

We didn't realise that the hotel was on the 5th floor - we were looking for a hotel with a clear entrance on the ground floor. Plus it wasn't that obvious that there was a lift as it was quite an old fashioned type.

On the eve of and also the day of our checkout we were not able to pay by credit card which meant that i had to track down a bank and get money out on my credit card which incurred me additional costs.

it was a very pleasant stay and very central to everything - very impressed. the only area that let it down was not being able to pay by credit card. It may only have been a problem on those couple of days but it did inconvenience us slightly.

The first night we were in a room without an ensuite bathroom, although we did have a private bathroom adjacent to our room. We were moved for our 2 remaining nights to a room with ensuite facilities.

It would have been useful to know that the hotel was in fact just the 5th floor of a building. The entrance was easily missed.
