Dating back to the Middle Ages, the Grand Hotel Minerva occupies one of Florence's most picturesque squares, adjacent to the ornate facade of the Church of Santa Maria Novella. It is one of the best located and oldest hotels in town, and part of the Historical Sites of Italy. Stylishly transported into the 20th century by the architect Detti and the designer Scarpa and further refurbished since, this is a magnificent base to explore the delights of the city. |
A wonderful relax zone is situated on the fifth floor, on a splendid panoramic terrace and besides guaranteeing refuge from the heat and a wonderful tan, it offers our guests a unique view - a visual dive of 360 degrees onto the Church of Santa Maria Novella, the Cathedral, Giotto’s Tower, Palazzo Vecchio, Fiesole and Piazzale Michelangelo. It is open during the summer months and supplies a bar and catering service. From the swimming pool can see down into piazza S.Maria Novella with its church, so richly decorated with art that it is practically a museum by itself. |
Granting itself pleasant moments of relax at the American bar accompanied by the music of our piano, offers the possibility to appreciate the warm and receiving atmosphere of the Grand Hotel Minerva. Overlooking the picturesque internal gardens, I Chiostri’s dining areas offer Tuscan, international and vegetarian food as creative as their surrounds. The surroundings seem to be particularly suitable for evening tones: serious and formal for a gala dinner or cosy and welcoming. |
One room is rectangular and one of its longer sides looks out onto an internal garden, through an enormous window. The floor, in black and white squares designed by Scarpa is of such beauty that it has overcome the limits imposed by the style of the sixties. The other smaller room looks out onto the internal garden through an unusual rhomboidal window, also by Scarpa. On the walls there are photographic reproductions of unusual glimpses of the Florentine area in striking black and white. The chairs are wooden and the seats are made of strips of woven leather. |
In summer, you can enjoy light lunch and dinner on the rooftop by the pool. Use of the stunning panoramic rooftop pool, solarium and nearby Fitness Centre is free of charge. Bicycle hire is also available, while guests can benefit from discounted green fees at two local golf courses. For art, culture, history and shopping, a wealth of Florentine opportunity awaits. Within walking distance one can find famous museums and historic buildings, including Duomo, Uffizzi Gallery and the Academy of fine Arts, as well as exhibition and conference centres. |
