Roberto had double booked for the first night of our stay. He contacted us quickly, arranged superior accomodation in a slightly better located 4* Hotel and collected us the very next morning personally. He went to great trouble to provide us with a thoroughly enjoyable stay in Florence & we would stay with him again should we visit Firenze in the future.

Due to the lack of permanent onsite staff, it was necessary to communicate exact arrival time to arrange for someone to be available - not a problem as we can speak Italian. We were asked to telephone from the airport.

Residence il Maggio was very clean and nice. Roberto and his wife made us very welcome, and assisted us in making other arrangements. The property is within easy walking distance to all main sites, and on a quiet street.
I do think more specific directions would help (from train/bus station), as the streets in Florence are confusing, often short and changing names without reason.

I would make it more clear that the location is near the American Consulate and a large park, and less than one block to the Arno River. This makes accessing all the downtown sites extremely easy. We never even took a bus while in Florence, we could easily walk everywhere.
For Americans, a 'bed and breakfast' usually means more breakfast, so I would clarify by calling this 'continental' breakfast.

Residenza il Maggio was a fantastic place to stay in
Florence -- a huge room, a freindly staff, a great
breakfast service, and all at an unbeatable price. Of all the
places we stayed on our recent trip to Italy Residenza il
Maggio was one of the best!

I arrived by train from Pisa at 12 noon but could not book in till 3.00. I wasn't sure my mobile would contact the number given so I had to wait. Could it be made clear that if you are arriving before the time advertised that you could email ahead and arrange for someone to be there so I didn't have to sit in the park for 3 hours !!! Perhaps I should have done that myself.

I had emailed that we would leave Rome in the late morning and arrive Florence early afternoon. We got to the Residenza at 14:00 and were left standing in the rain. After an hour of looking for assistance, our hostess was finally contacted and she was there in 15 minutes. She said that she thought that we would call from Rome. I thought that the email was sufficient. More communication needed.

We were pleased that the Residenza was not in a commercial district. It is convenient to everything that we wanted to see. Walking is very easy and bus service convenient. A small 'D' bus from the train station will drop visitors two blocks from the Residenza.

Lovely, quiet and clean. Reasonable. We felt a bit abandoned by the staff as someone ran in to register us and then disappeared. BUT breakfast was always ready on the dot and the coffee kept coming

Very helpful - very informative - included an ice-cold bottle of water for me in my room which was greatly appreciated.

I enjoyed my stay very much and the couple who ran it were very nice and the service was excellent, but the room was a bit shabby - walls needed washing or painting, carpet needed to be cleaned - some of the bed linen should be replaced - the bathroom, however, was spotless.

Very smooth and efficient - let me keep the room until late in the afternoon of the day I was leaving at no extra charge.

The impression given on the website is that 2 sisters own and run the B&B. It's just a small point, but the B&B is run by a man and his wife, and that should be made clear. It also should be made clear that the owners/managers are not there at night -some travellers may not be comfortable with that and should be well aware of it.
