The Hotel Martelli is situated in an ancient Medicean palace in the very historical city centre of Florence only a few steps farther from Duomo cathedral, the Uffizi gallery the main important museums of Florence and from the rail station of Santa Maria Novella. Completely renewed the Hotel disposes of 52 rooms all elegantly furnished and fully equipped with all the comforts of the modern life.
In it knows it breakfasts, in order to begin a day of job or a tourist visit to the city there will be the specialties of the Continental Buffet where salty and sweet join in mix of tastes all Italians. |
Strolling through the hotel one cannot but observe the family crests of two Noble Florentine families that once inhabited this edifice. Bartolini Salimbeni: on whose family crest are written the curious words "Per Non Dormire" (translated "To not Sleep"), an antique warning for travelling merchants who upon arriving in Florence to sell their goods would sleep so soundly that they would not wake up in time the following morning to go to the market. |
Martelli: another Noble family represented by a winged Vulture on the crest and who transformed, around the middle of the 19th century, a part of the home into an inn. It is said that Caterina de Medici (1519-1589) slept in the present room number 47 on her visits to Florence. Furthermore our staff is willing to welcome and help you in everything you might need. |
