The old Palace still fulfills its original role as Florence 's town hall. Completed in 1322, its huge bell used to call citizens to political meetings or warn of fire, flood or enemy attack. |
Amongst many other notable works of art in this one Piazza is Donatello 's heraldic lion statue, Michelangelo's celebrated statue of David and the Neptune Fountain commemorating Tuscany's naval victories. Florence 's best sights are encom passed within this compact area and the city seems to reveal its treasure at every step. As a centre of high fashion and quality Florence is hard to beat. |
