An avenue of timeless cypresses frames the handsome facade of Torre di Bellosguardo, protected by the maternal marble figure of Charity, the work of the famous Flemish sculptor Francavilla. Silence envelopes the tower now as it did when Guido Cavalcanti, Florentine nobleman and Dante's friend, chose this gentle and majestic hill to build his manor. He found the view over the city so breathtaking that he called it Bellosguardo: "Beautiful view." |
Florence lies at its feet, its pink roofs sparkling, its spires rising above the mists, so close that Bellosguardo is almost one with the city. A series of terraces tumbles down towards the City of Florence, resembling a tangled labyrinth of flowers, colors, sparkling greens, and rose-smothered pergolas. |
Countless fragrances announce the seasons: in Spring, irises usher in Easter, and lilac blossoms whisper that Summer is just around the corner. Tempting roses cling to stone walls, magnolias reach upward for the sun, and a soft, wide, intensely green lawn awaits to be caressed. Within this wealth of flowers and greenery is nestled the peaceful turquoise outdoor swimming pool, which provides a lovely view of the City of Florence below. |
At night, the flower garden is full of magic. Shimmering with hosts of fireflies, it releases waves of aromatic perfumes after the day's heat. As dawn breaks, it unfurls again, laden with dew, cheerful with wisteria, mimosa, daffodils, camelias, peonies, and oleander...flowers that guests will enjoy in graceful vases in their rooms. |
The delicately frescoed ballroom opens up as a surprise. Here guests are welcomed at the beginning of their stay in Bellosguardo. Romantic cool halls promise moments of quiet to delve into a book or cheerfully remember the exhausting day spent plodding through museums and shopping. |
