| | | The Vipflorence Apartments are located in a historical building in the pedestrian area of Central Florence, midway between the Santa Maria Novella railway station and the Cathedral. At the edge of the San Lorenzo famous tourist market, it faces directly the entrance of the Medicis Chapels, one of the main Florence tourist sites thanks to Michelangelo's masterpieces (such as the "Night" and the "Day"). |
From the apartments you can reach the Cathedral in a five-minute walk, while all the main Florence tourist sites are really at your fingertips. Once the house was owned by a very special artist: Mr. Gaetano Bianchini. His works were a special kind of mosaic called "Commesso in Pietre Dure", where hard stones of all colours were cut very precisely and joined together to form a shape. You can see examples of his masterpieces in the Pitti Museum of Modern Art. |
His atelier was exactly in the building which now houses Apartments Giotto and Cimabue. On the third floor, where the apartments are, a reinforced door (still present) was built to protect all the pieces. The other two floors were the factory itself, where Mr Bianchini and his very skilled workers cut and polished the single mosaic pieces which would be used later to form a complete work of art. |
Our apartments have been recently renovated and perfectly furnished with all modern comforts. In these apartments you will really feel at home and we'll do the best of us to create a special atmosphere, in a special building, in an enchanting city! |
